Inquiry (SecondPresentations)

It was interesting to hear the inquiry projects be presented opposed to the gallery walk format. I found them to be very engaging and I learnt a lot but the five things that stood out the most to me were:

  1. Students, no matter the grade shouldn’t be given homework. If they are given homework it should be very meaningful and involve their family, have a reason to be homework.
  2. Giving homework takes away from kids being active and involved in the community.
  3. I had never heard of the backwards classroom model. I found this to be a very interesting concept but I’m not completely sure how well it would work out with the limitations in home. Plus is this not homework in a way?
  4. I had never heard of the recycled orchestra and after visiting the orchestra last week with my class, I think having this group come into the school would be an amazing opportunity.
  5. Seeing what people were able to make out of garbage, and the beautiful music that comes from them blew me away. With the focus on recycling and creating environmentally aware students, I think that having the students create an instrument would be an amazing exploration for the students.

  1. I agree Darci, that music made from recyclable materials would be a great project even if it is as basic as making maracas from old light bulbs and papier mache. Good question about homework or not? with relation to the flipped classroom model. I wonder that too.
