This week I had the opportunity to take my students on a field trip to Burns Bog. For many of them this was their first time there. I think that field trips are an excellent way to bring the students education to life. It helps them gain a deeper understanding of what they are learning about. It was really neat to watch them do Emily Carr inspired art in the bog. We had learnt a bit about her and her style and done some practice sketches in the classroom but the work that came from the bog was amazing. The students really got into the art and being in the forest which was a great example of how learning can benefit from exploring outside of the classroom.
Hands on experiences like the Emily Carr artwork are so important. The movement, positive emotions evoked and connection to really life will embed the learning. Well done!
