May 25 – 29

Today was an exciting day as it was our TOC day. I got to go into a grade 5 classroom which was a lot different then my own. I found it very useful to have to prepare a day for a TOC in my own class, as I really had to think about every little detail of my class. When I was going to my new school for the day I was very nervous because I didn’t know what to expect or what to do when I first came into the school. After coming in, meeting the principal and finding my classroom I was starting to relax. When I first looked at the daybook and the note that was left I was feeling a bit worried and overwhelmed with what to do. After I read through the lessons and got a better understanding I was starting to feel more comfortable and when I let the students in I finally was feeling all comfortable. One thing that I found to be a little hard was determining what a good working level is for the class as I didn’t want to be too strict but I also didn’t want them to be out of control. I think I caught on really quickly to what a functioning level was for the class and which students I needed to keep a closer watch on or give more reminders to. Its hard going into a class and trying to maintain another teachers expectations when you aren’t sure what they are but I feel that I was able to get everything that was planned done and the students were mostly on task through out the day. I think that this day is extremely beneficial for me because it has taken some of the unknown and butterflies away that I would be feeling when I first start to TOC.

  1. Yes, I agree! The first day of being a TTOC is really quite nerve wracking. It is wonderful that you caught the flow of the day and ran with it, developing more confidence as it moved along!
