In my class there is one student who is always being the attention seeker. No matter what is happening, whether its group work or individual work, the student must always be at the center of the attention. They want the attention of the class, the students and the adults in the room all at once. I can see that in the events where the child tries to get all of this attention they get lost in what they are doing and whom they are trying to get the attention from.

Some of the behaviors that were exhibited by this student were interrupting when the teacher is talking to the class, reading a story or talking to another adult. As well as constantly getting up and going to the teacher for reaffirming, even though they know or just asked. The student would also call out frequently, during carpet time as well as deskwork time. This student also exhibits strong domination in-group work where they are grabbing, cutting other students off from talking and constantly talking about them self. One thing that really disrupts me about this student’s behavior is their constant need to be getting up out of their desk doing dances or jumping around or even just walking around to other students at inappropriate times.

The battle with this attention-seeking student has been going on for a while and there are different methods in place to try and discourage this behavior. The main strategy I saw yesterday was ignoring the student when they were off task. The teacher would also go through appropriate behavior with the student every time they would interrupt or talk out. I though that these were great strategies to use and eventually, hopefully, the student will learn and be discouraged to behave in an interruptive manor.
