How’s the Weather in Your World?

Here is a morning greeting that could be used in any class

Go around the classroom and each child gives a type of weather that describes how they are doing that day. Explain the objective and then allow the children time to think of their response before going around. Children have the option to explain why they chose that weather, but they do not have to share.

Care Wash

This can be done as a morning greeting or as a good bye exercise.

Split the students up and have them stand across from each other in two straight lines. Have them put their hands up to form a tunnel and have one student at a time walk through the ‘care wash’. As the student walks through they turn to each person and they get a compliment or appreciation from them. Get the students to think deeper than their appearance.

This is a good activity to help students learn to give compliments and think beyond physical compliments.

Suggestion: Only do a few students a day as it does take some time. Possibly do it with the special helper everyday.

Compliment Circle

This could be a morning greeting or end of the day good bye.

Get the children to sit in a circle and go around complimenting the person next to them. Get them to search deeper for compliments that aren’t appearances based.

This is a really good exercise as many children aren’t aware of how to give a compliment nor do they usually think of compliments that aren’t based on appearance.
