I was very nervous going into the first week of long practicum. I hadn’t had a chance to get in contact with my SA and the lesson I was teaching on Monday was one that I hadn’t done before. I was to introduce each group to their word sort words and I was feeling like I didn’t know much and was going to mess up. After completing that lesson I feel that I can teach it more confidently next time. One thing that I realized I would like to work on more is monitoring the students when I am teaching. Often I think I tend to ignore the students who are fooling around or playing in their desk but I need to be more on top of them. I try and call on them to answer questions or stop and ask those certain students to repeat what I said. I am going to try and work on this more. I would also like to work on cutting down my blind spots, so making sure that I am watching all of the students. I found this hard to do when the seats were arranged in a oval. With the new seat change I think they are in an arrangement that will make monitoring them all easier and more natural. I am feeling more confident about practicum this week.
