Click here for my<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/dariuszhang\/blog\/\"> blog posts <\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a fourth-year student who is about to enter the workforce, I felt the need to improve my business writing skills, which is why I chose to take English 301. In this course, I will have the opportunity to familiarize myself with the techniques of business writings, such as format, organization, appropriate word choices, and tone. This course offers a platform for me to connect with peers who have different business and education backgrounds, creating an online environment that facilitates collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>The way that ENGL301 is set up is student-oriented, almost every assignment involves peer review. One unique feature about this course is that it does not have lectures in any format. The instructor&#8217;s blogs serve as guidelines that orient students to the correct way of business writings. Further to this, the assignments in this course are non-traditional, such as emails and memos. Once students master the skills in daily business communication, they move on to a major assignment which is the business report. This transition helps students to obtain writing skills step by step so that they can learn in a much more detailed way.<\/p>\n<p>As a student of Interdisciplinary studies, I expect to learn practical skills about business writings, the kind of skills that I could use in professional situations. The writing skills I have for now are academic, which helps me to build goodwill but I know that professional scenarios need more than that.
