Territory is the title of a systems theatre play being produced by Dani Pigeau, Tom Scholte and Vanessa Andreotti addressing the complexities of race relations in schools in British Columbia.
The drama unfolds in a school where an Indigenous teacher faces micro-aggressions stemming from investments in the narrative of Canada as a multicultural peaceful nation. The Indigenous teacher is working in an Indigenous territory other than her own and also reflects on the complexities of working as a guest in another Indigenous nation’s home.
The play is currently being workshoped with artists and teachers and a short documentary about the backstage of its development will be released through the David Lam Chair by December 2022.
