A leaked report containing evidence shows corruption is happening in Quebec roadwork industry. In many cases, the consulting engineering firms have inflated estimates of projects while entrepreneurs are going over budget. The Report shows that same entrepreneurs have charged the Ministry of Transportation for extra money on several occasions. The extra money received are given to consulting firms, political parties or even used to pay workers.
Decisions and actions made by the roadwork industry are certainly unethical . The money that they have received as extra revenue belongs to the taxpayers whom have worked hard to earn the money. This will build a relationship of distrust between taxpayers and the roadwork industry, which could mean that people will no longer be willing to pay taxes knowing how it is spend. Ministry of Transportation should create more strict policies and carefully review budget reports to prevent such fraud from happening. In today’s society, money has such a great demand that it should be carefully spent on things that support the society such as healthcare or education.
