I appreciated Nicole’s post for task #6. Her final comment resonated with me most. :

If our ultimate goal is to share information effectively with everyone, our focus should be just that. How we share – words, images, graphics, video, or audio – should not matter

As Bolter (2001) describes the conflict between text and images; it seems to be suggested that text (in the past) was superior to images. We are at a forefront of change. I can see this change happening amongst the materials my students are choosing to read and the provision of materials from educators. However, some believe picture books and comics are for younger more underdeveloped readers, while others are encouraging the use of infographics, graphic novels, videos and various other forms of media as reading. Khan (2017) suggests that in order for students to succeed educators must embrace diverse teaching methods (multi media and modal) to support learning amongst different types of brains. Khan (2017) describes this. as the future of education (you can find the article here). If ultimately our goals it to effectively share information with everyone, then we must consider all needs in order to accomplish this. I appreciated Nicole’s post for emphasizing this key point.
