My name is Daniel Chen and I am a third-year student in the Bachelors of Computer Science (BCS) program at the University of British Columbia. Before enrolling in this program, I had graduated with a Bachelors of Science majoring in Microbiology and Immunology, also at UBC. During my first degree, I had discovered a passion for computer science after taking an introductory course, which ultimately led me to enrol in the BCS program.
I am very interested in combining scientific research with computer science, more specifically employing computer science to aid in the process of generating and analyzing data. For example, at the VCL we have developed an automated program that dynamically displays scatter plots of varying correlation on a screen, tracks the participants response to which they believe has a higher correlation, and generates a data set for the researcher. The data generated from the experiment can then be analyzed using special programs written specifically for the type of analysis the researcher wishes to use.
I am looking forward to combining the knowledge I have gained in the BCS program, along with previous experience, to discover the most suitable career path.
In my spare time, I enjoy improving my health and fitness by weight lifting and participating in various physical outdoor activities. I also enjoy solving programming problems and working on personal coding projects.
