Moodle tool – Assessment Reflection

I have to admit, a new learning experience like Moodle at the end of the school year was more than I bargained for, wanted or expected. Like everyone, marking final exams, late assignments and procrastinators harassing you is pretty typical of every end of school ritual. Add to it, two online Masters courses that are accessible 24/7 and my own kids who are at the “let’s fight age”, ya things were/are a little hectic.

Moodling around has actually been quite the experience… once I got my head around the ‘entire picture’ ie: the structure of the program, I am quite enjoying it. I see it’s value though I don’t want Moodle to replace my acting abilities while on stage. I love watching kids eyes as they see you move from one side of the board to the other. I’m Italian so I use my arms and hands a lot and kids seem to pick up on that more than I. My tone also adjusts for the kind of day I’m having… for the most part it’s a healthy and fun environment. Even though curriculum is what it is, I also ‘draw in’ the life stories and kids always love that.

Moodle, to me will be the saviour when you just don’t have the energy to teach on some days. It’s like the peer tutor who comes to life to help you out when you need it most. Who knows, I may learn to enjoy the Moodling experience in class and will employ the LMS as a full time partner.

Someone mentioned Moodle is very interactive and Yes, I would agree. The yellow circles with the ? mark aka – ‘help functions’ – seemed to be lacking, but then I stopped using them when I realized they weren’t helping much. I found installing content in Moodle happened much more quickly as I became more comfortable with the software. That goes without saying. There’s not much more to say as I consider myself a complete novice, but look forward to building my Business Ed programs utilizing my new LMS – Moodle.
