Below are Indigenous dance rituals from three different cultures. The first one is the Métis Red River jig, the second one is a Cree prairie chicken dance and the last one is a Coast Salish Hul’q’umi’num dance. Part of my “Big Idea” project is to prove how analyzing Indigenous dance can teach people to acknowledge that there are various Indigenous cultures, each with different customs. This is evident in the dances below. It is crucial that Indigeneity not be viewed as one monolithic culture.
