MY ACADEMICS
I am currently in my first year of university at UBC and I am absolutely loving it. As I mentioned in my “About” page, I plan on majoring in political science while minoring in Indigenous studies with the intent of becoming a civil rights lawyer. I have chosen to pursue this path because What experiences or interests led you to pursue this path because politics, world issues, law and history have always been extremely fascinating to me. I am also very passionate about social justice and to not intend to live my life without maximizing my potential in bringing effective and positive change into government and law.
Reaching my academic goals of graduating with my Bachelor’s degree and gaining acceptance into law school will not be a cake walk, but I am ready for the challenge. I also am very interested in doing a co-op in my third or fourth year to help me get an idea of what the reality my goal career looks like. My education here excites me because my selected courses engage me in conversations about Indigeneity, gender, politics and government in which I am constantly learning.
I chose to come to UBC because I truly feel this school has a vested interest in my success. This was first evident when I received a Major Entrance Scholarship for the faculty of arts, and the same welcoming spirit has been persistent ever since. What makes me believe in myself academically is that I never thought I was smart enough for most of my high school career, but ended up flourishing during grade 12 and graduated with honours and as an Ontario scholar. This both surprised me and reminded me to stay focused on my goals.
