I always thought this was one of the saddest songs I’d ever heard, before it blew up huge on the internet…(theres the marketing tit bit, more on that later) I knew the backstory behind the song…

Hey there Delilah was written for a univeristy of columbia student named Delilah DiCrescenzo, The lead singer of the plain white T’s had a huge crush on her, and decided to write her a song, but obviously that isn’t why the songs sad, thats Sweet?, Cute? right?

She shut him down…

Said Delilah: “It was so beautifully written,” she said. “There was pressure to live up to this ideal. I didn’t know how to be polite but, you know, ditch him.”

Alls not bad though, The back story has given the song a poetic sense of irony, a truthful meening many songs don’t contain, life isn’t going to always be a disney movie, even if you write an international hit. Not to mention the insaine amout of money thats been made in all this, I’ll leave you with the artists take on the whole thing
