Biography

Hello everyone!

My name is Dhara. I grew up in Ontario, Canada, where I completed a philosophy degree (BA) at McMaster University. While philosophy can seem abstract and far-removed from our everyday lives, it taught me to learn to think in a clear and succinct way. This skill is applicable beyond the scope of my degree. Some of the courses I took include metaphysics, theory of knowledge, formal logic, and political philosophy.

After completing my degree, I applied for the BCS program at UBC. The BCS program is a second degree program for computer science. It involves approximately 2 years of schooling with a co-op program. I am currently in my second semester. I look forward to getting relevant work experience in the upcoming fall.

I chose computer science because I loved the logic component in my previous degree. For example, the course CPSC 121 (Models of Computation) covers many of the topics that initially drew me to my first logic course. In general, I love getting lost solving problems or debugging code. I find that the hours fly by — always a good sign.

I aim to have a career in software development, though I am still unsure of the specific environment or job I would like. As I gain more work experience, I hope to get some clarity on the details.

Aside from my academic and professional goals, I enjoy cooking, making memories with friends, writing and reading fiction, and working out.

Have a nice day!
