Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment

Musculoskeletal fitness has been associated with many health benefits such as increased functionality, mobility, decreased risk of disease, lower risk of injuries, and decreased fat mass. Several factors make up musculoskeletal fitness and have been found to be the following:

Muscular Endurance: defined as the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to repeatedly contract over a period of time and can be easily assessed. Endurance can be tested through the utilization of the partial curl-up test as well as the maximum number of push-ups that can be completed. These tests are used because they are reliable evaluation of upper-body strength and trunk endurance.

Muscular Strength: defined as the maximal force that can be produced by a muscle or group of muscles during a single contraction and can be measured using the gold-standard 1RM max of one’s grip strength. However due to the target population testing will be carefully monitored and altered if necessary.

Muscular Power: defined as the explosiveness of a muscle and is tested by the height of one’s vertical jump.

Through the progress of this program, both the cardiovascular activity and dynamic strength training will help in increasing all clients musculoskeletal fitness levels and will aid in their ability to maintain functionality and independence with age.

This test will last for approximatley 30 minutes including an explanation from our staff about what each score means and how it can relate in regards to their overall fitness. The test will be an additional $30.
