Comment on: Jay Agrawal’s AIRNB Post

While reading Jay’s blog about AIRNB, a company who has work spaces that are, open, welcoming, offer free homemade and healthy desserts, and even allows pets, I couldn’t help but compare it to Zappo’s, the company we discussed in class. As Jay mentioned, AIRNB and even Zappo’s, have a similar workplace structure to Google. AIRNB, a recent start up, is already valued at $13 billion. It is evident that there is success in following this workplace structure when using these three companies as examples. I agree with Jay, the investment into this structure is definitely worth it because: happy workers = future business success.

Will this type of structure start to be considered the norm of companies in the future? As unrealistic as this idea is, this comforting and strategic structure is increasingly being implemented by start-ups. Although it may not be possible to develop an office such as AIRNB or Zappos, every business could do well from adopting some of the practices observed within these companies’ walls. If employees are valued, they work better towards the goal of the company. Incorporating things such as, relaxing break rooms to lounge in during breaks, in a rigid business, could be something small and beneficial to the success of the company. Multiple aspects of this new work place style can be executed by any business willing to put in the extra effort.
