The Seven Elements of Digital Storytelling

Center for Digital Storytelling

1. Point of view: What is the main point and perspective of the author?

2.  A dramatic question: what question/idea keeps the viewer’s attention and is answered by the end.

3. Emotional content: how is the author connected to the content, and how does the view connect to the story.

4.  Voice: the author provides a personal touch to the story through the addition of their voice and storytelling ability.

5. Soundtrack: how does the music or other sounds support and enhance the story

6. Economy: the balance of just the right amount of content, narration and images

7. Pacing: the rhythm of the story and how slowly or quickly it progresses
