There are multiple tools to use to create digital stories. I have found it is best to highlight a few easy tools and then let the students choose their preference.
1. Voicethread – a cloud-based Web 2.0 tool enabling students to record audio and upload video and image files.
Benefits: free, accessible anywhere and on any device with an internet connection, quick, easy to learn, built in audio recorder, accesses computer camera, saved in the cloud, peers can leave comments
Drawbacks: costs to download, no real aesthetic features
2. Combination of iMovie (photos and movie files) and Garage Band (audio files).
Benefits: creative, easier to add audio and music files, more ability to edit and create mash-ups, saved on the computer/network
Drawbacks: time, skill level, saved on computer/network
