March Point Documentary Trailer

This is the initial video from ETEC 521 that introduced me to the power digital storytelling can have for Indigenous youth.  This video highlights the experiences of three at risk youth as they become involved with Native Lens as a substitute for mandated drug treatment.  The three struggling students became passionate digital storytellers: investigating, connecting, telling and recording their story.

 

 

The Native Youth Enrichment Program

In collaboration with the Center for Digital Storytelling, 20 youth developed their own digital story by using photos, audio, and first person narrative.  A powerful collection of digital stories representing Indigenous students perspectives and experiences.

Sookinchoot Youth Centre Youtube Chanel

The North Okanagan First Nations and Metis youth centre has a youtube channel to share programs and showcase videos made by youth. Most videos tell a traditional story in a digital storytelling format.  Here is a link to “How the Raven Stole the Sun.”

National Aboriginal Day: Our Voice, Our Culture, Our Community, Aboriginal Youth Video Project

A video highlighting the experiences of twelve youth from Richmond, BC as they create their own digital stories sharing their experiences as an Aboriginal youth.

“imagineNATIVE showcases, promotes, and celebrates emerging and established Canadian and international Indigenous filmmakers and media artists.”  The organization is committed to dispelling stereotypes through their yearly film festival, which includes a youth workshop and competition.

Aboriginal People’s Television Network

Originally created to blend traditional storytelling with the digital realm, the APTN website provides visitors with insight into Aboriginal perspectives on issues through news segments, tv shows, documentaries and a children’s show.
