I will be using this blog to elaborate and commentate on inspiring historical fights making many references to my personal experiences in boxing. These blogs will be written like journal entries or commentaries based on close readings, narrated through my perspective alone. What you can expect to read and learn from my blogs are some fundamental techniques of boxing, my personal and obnoxious opinions on certain styles, historical fights and or anything about fight in general. What you won’t find in my blogs are commentaries on Mix Martial Arts fights and fighters.
I will not be dissecting fights I am not utterly insane about and have not thoroughly studied back and forth in slow motion.
I began training boxing 3 years ago at a MMA gym in Beijing, China called Club Hero. Ever since then I have lived, breathed, sweated and bled in the life of a boxer every single day; when I am not at the gym dishing-it-out on the heavy bag, the mitts with my trainer or my sparring partner(s) I am studying the techniques and old fights of previous pound-for-pound champions. The first thing I was taught about boxing was that the only way to learn is the hard way.
Just so we’re clear my commentaries won’t go as far back as to the Greek and Mesopotamian era of boxing but will only contain fights of my favorite boxers and contemporary fighters such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, James Toney and so forth. My favorite boxers (such as Sugar Ray Leonard) are all deified icons of boxing, worshiped and praised by generations of fans and millions of people world wide; therefore (I’m sure) the number of opinions out there on these fights are incredibly numerous but my break down of these fights (for example Thomas Hearns vs Marvin Hagler) will be easy to read and comprehend, no matter what background or knowledge on boxing you already have. I very much appreciate feed back so if there is ever anything that needs clarifying please let me know.
As I mentioned earlier I will also be using this blog as a sort of journal to document my thoughts and experiences in training everyday. My trainer back in Beijing is very renowned for his techniques in boxing and Muay Thai and has drawn the attention of many professional MMA fighters in Beijing; this in turn has greatly benefited me as I became regular sparring partners for these professional fighters. A few concussions here, a few bloody noses there and a lot of bruised rib cages has allowed me to substantially accelerate my boxing ability; I trained along side these professionals for only 1 year but I have continued training boxing everyday since my arrival at Vancouver. At the moment I an trying to lose weight so that I may begin my amateur career in boxing. I will strive in delivering accurate and honest information to my readers and always try to keep things fresh. I sincerely hope I don’t offend anyone.
