What are my learning goals for ETEC 565A?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As an educator, I am extremely interested in learning how to create and design\u00a0a pedagogically sound\u00a0 course that\u00a0is suitable for online delivery.\u00a0I really want to expand my pr\"worditout-word-cloud-1852408\"ofessional skill-set and be able to possibly teach online courses within my current position. At the moment, I teach a district program for students who are gifted or need enrichment. In this program, select students from\u00a0various schools within\u00a0the district\u00a0are invited to attend a four day\u00a0intensive workshop that\u00a0tap into their special area of\u00a0interest. As the district is very large, many students are unable to attend due to the \u00a0lack of transportation.\u00a0\u00a0For a few years now, I have grappled with the idea of\u00a0 providing an online\u00a0course for those students\u00a0who have difficulty\u00a0travelling to the school in which I am stationed. I feel that ETEC 565A is an excellent start in providing me with the knowledge and skills necessary to make this proposition a reality. I feel that this course will help me gain insight into how I can create a pilot course that is designed appropriately and uses technology effectively to ultimately transform the\u00a0learning experience.<\/p>\n

What is my experience with instructional tools and technology?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professionally, I have not yet experimented with online instructional tools and technology but I am extremely eager to learn. As a student, I have used a variety of Learning Management Systems\u00a0while studying in the\u00a0higher education system.\u00a0The programs I have\u00a0used include: BlackBoard, Connect and WordPress. Interestingly, I\u00a0enrolled in one of the first fully online courses offered by my university.\u00a0\u00a0I loved the flexibility of the schedule but\u00a0remember the experience as being quite\u00a0unengaging and isolating. The online\u00a0courses at this time\u00a0simply\u00a0substituted the oral lecture for written text.\u00a0As the years have progressed, I have personally experienced the shift in pedagogical thinking around the design, development and implementation of\u00a0online courses. The difference between the first\u00a0online Psychology course I took and ETEC 522 is astounding. ETEC 522\u00a0was engaging, collaborative and\u00a0emphasized the acquisition of skill development. The activities in this course allowed for deep understanding and genuinely transformed student learning. I would like to learn the necessary knowledge and skills to create an online course of this calibre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
