New Video Collection in Business Source Complete
A video collection is now available through the Business Source Complete database. The first videos in this growing collection are the Harvard Business School Faculty Seminar Series.
From EBSCO (the database provider:
“The series features engaging video lectures from renowned professors and experts at the Harvard Business School. All lectures are captured from executive education programs, and offer groundbreaking ideas, insightful research, and practical advice on management issues…The videos contain a table of content allowing the selection of a specific topic. Most lectures provide a transcript in PDF format.”
To access the videos, connect to Business Source Complete and click on the More link on the menu bar at the top. Select Business Videos/Images from the drop down box. Search for videos by keyword (e.g. Harvard).

New Databases
UBC Library now provides access to the MINT Global and ORBIS databases from Bureau van Dijk.
MINT Global (for student users)
MINT Global provides information on over 50,000 publicly-traded companies and 5 million private companies from around the world.
MINT GLOBAL gives access to a wide variety of high quality information covering companies, news, directors* and market research as well as providing access to original documentation and filings. It has simple screens to help you find relevant data. You can search for companies or news stories that match your specific criteria, and build reports and lists that contain your chosen content.
MINT Global is a simpler platform for ORBIS, designed for student users. Advanced users should see the ORBIS database.

ORBIS (for advanced users)
ORBIS provides information on over 50,000 publicly-traded companies and 5 million private companies from around the world. As well as descriptive information and company financials, ORBIS contains further detail such as news, market research, ratings and country reports, scanned reports, ownership, and brief M&A data.
ORBIS includes advanced search and analysis software so you can identify and evaluate companies around the world.

Trial Databases
OSIRIS
UBC Library has trial access to the OSIRIS database (from Bureau van Dijk) until March 2010. Please try out this database and provide us with your feedback.
OSIRIS is a comprehensive database of listed companies, banks and insurance companies around the world. Covering more than 190 countries OSIRIS contains information on over 57,000 companies. In addition to the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and ratios, other information includes news, ownership, subsidiaries, M&A activity and ratings.

Sage Journals Online
SAGE publishes more than 520 journals in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology and Medicine. SAGE Journals Online is the delivery platform that provides online access to the full text of individual SAGE journals.

Oxford Journals is a division of Oxford University Press, which is a department of Oxford University. We publish well over 200 academic and research journals covering a broad range of subject areas, two-thirds of which are published in collaboration with learned societies and other international organizations.

Trial Databases
IMF e-Library
UBC Library has trial access to the International Monetary Fund e-Library until July 22, 2009.
The International Monetary Fund publishes information on its own activities and policies, as well as on its 185 member countries. The IMF e-Library contains publications from recent years as well as statistical resources: Balance of Payments, Direction of Trade, Government Finance Statistics, and International Financial Statistics.

World Bank E-Library/Suite
UBC Library has trial access to the following suite of databases until August 31, 2009.

World Bank e-Library: An electronic portal to the World Bank’s full-text collection of books, journals, working papers and other documents on social and economic development. It is the most comprehensive collection in the area and brings together a fully indexed and cross-searchable database of thousands of World Bank publications.
Africa Development Indicators Online: Provides the most comprehensive collection of data on the African economy. It contains data for over 1,400 indicators and time series from 1965 for 53 coutnries. Data include social, economic, financial, natural resources, infrastructure, governance, partnership, and enviornmental indicators.
Global Development Finance: The World’s Bank annual assessment of global financial conditions facing emerging markets. Offers external debt and financial flow data for 129 countries that report public and publicly guaranteed debt to the World Bank’s Debtor Reporting System. Time series includes over 200 indicators from 1970-2017.
Global Economic Monitor (GEM): Features up-to-date analysis of global economic conditions, including a daily brief and event-driven focus reports.

Top 20 Countries in Economics & Business
Canada placed third in a ranking of Top 20 Countries in Economics & Business, based on the number of citations of papers published in Thomson Reuters journals from 1998-2008. The ranking, published in February 2009, comes from Essential Science Indicators, a tool that evaluates publication and citation data from journals indexed by Thomson-Reuters.

Manufacturing: The Year 2008 in Review
From the Statistics Canada website: “This study reviews status and trends for the manufacturing sector in 2008. Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities
Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities is a collection of directories of academic journals for the disciplines of business, education, and psychology. The purpose of the database is to help professors, students and researchers identify journals to which they can submit articles for publication. Each journal entry is in PDF format and provides relevant information to potential authors such as acceptance rate, type of review (blind, editorial, or peer), time to review, publication fees, and manuscript guidelines.

ULI Development Case Studies
Since 1971, the Urban Land Institute has been publishing case studies describing the development process of projects that are both innovative in their markets and financially successful. The short, summary versions of each case study may be viewed free.

Fundata Mutual Fund Databases
The Library now provides access to Fundata, a database that includes information for over 4200 active funds from almost 200 sponsor companies. Information includes fund status, type, RRSP indicators, sales/redemption charge, currency, dividend frequency, management fees, expense ratios, and percentage foreign invested. For each fund you may also retrieve time series of data, listing changes in total net assets, NAVPS, income and capital gain dividend per share, share balance and value of investment.
