WIKI

Wiki
July 17, 2013

A turning point occurred in my use of technology when I moved to Oaklands Elementary School in September 2010. I made the decision to pilot a classroom Wiki. Despite some initial concerns expressed by school district’s technology department, the project went ahead with the support of my principal.

Three years later, the Wiki is an accepted feature of my classroom. It is the primary source of information for parents and includes numerous examples of student activities and projects. I have learned to embed photos, movies, audio clips, books, calendars, and PDF’s. I have established a page run for and by parent volunteers. The use of the Wiki has cut my preparation time considerably. It has consolidated communication between home and school and is a source of encouragement and pride for my students.

I have not provided a link to my classroom wiki. It is private and incorporates security features to protect the identity of my students.
