{"id":231,"date":"2017-04-25T14:28:12","date_gmt":"2017-04-25T21:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/visaeportfolio\/?p=42"},"modified":"2017-04-25T14:28:12","modified_gmt":"2017-04-25T21:28:12","slug":"looking-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/looking-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the second week of class TAs conducted an in-lab exercise on &#8220;looking&#8221; wherein students were asked to divide into four groups of five and review the following web-sites.\u00a0 The group web-sites were carefully curated so that students would experience various formats and purposes.\u00a0 For example, each group has one musician, artistic or design ePortfolio that dealt with a specific discipline.\u00a0 Each group had various levels of ePortfolio success.\u00a0 As well, the ePortfolio&#8217;s in each group vary from full scroll to different content and section separations.\u00a0 All groups but one had a &#8216;resume&#8217; section.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>&#8220;LOOKING&#8221; WORKSHOP<br \/>\n<\/strong>In your groups, please take the time to experience the assigned web-sites.<br \/>\nPlease follow the prompts below and be ready to present on your group&#8217;s web-sites.<\/p>\n<p><em>Group 1: <\/em><br \/>\nAllison Geesey (Music, Penn State) &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alisongeesey.com\/\">http:\/\/www.alisongeesey.com\/<\/a><br \/>\nEvan R. What do these choices say about each person? How wide-ranging is the spectrum of aesthetic or formal choices\u2014that is, do all the sites look roughly the same, or are they vastly different?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Self-Representation <\/em><br \/>\nHow does each person represent themselves, both in a biographic statement (sometimes called \u201cAbout\u201d or \u201cBio\u201d) and through the site as a whole?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Headings <\/em><br \/>\nWhat is notable about the heading and subheadings that are used? How does the organization of the site and the categories it uses contribute to your understanding of each person? How wide-ranging is the spectrum of heading and subheading choices\u2014that is, are all the sites organized in roughly the same way, or are they vastly different? Is there a pattern as to who choose what kind of heading?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Structure <\/em><br \/>\nHow is the site structured? How does the navigation work? What does this structure say about the person who has made the site? How does it work in various displays?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Content <\/em><br \/>\nHow does the content of the text and images contribute to your understanding of the author?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>At the end of today\u2019s workshop, each person in the group must choose one aspect of the ePortfolios (aesthetic\/formal; self-representation; headings; structure; content) to focus present on for an ePortfolio Presentation due Week 4 (January 30 &amp; 31st).
