All work will be shown in class critique, and critique groups will come twice, for a total of \u00bd hour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/screen-shot-2018-10-11-at-1-49-40-am\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-637\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-11-at-1.49.40-AM-1024x660.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"660\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-11-at-1.49.40-AM-1024x660.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-11-at-1.49.40-AM-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-11-at-1.49.40-AM-400x258.png 400w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/donofrio\/files\/2018\/10\/Screen-Shot-2018-10-11-at-1.49.40-AM.png 1076w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sun Bleached Poster<br \/>\nMissing Child<br \/>\nAgain<\/p>\n<p><strong>Response\/Comment to Student<br \/>\n<\/strong>The content of the text, structure and materials reference their conditions, in overlaps as well as declared gaps, was very interesting.\u00a0 In particular, the puffy opaque yet soft letters, a slightly different white from the polyester (ready-made)\u00a0 background, referenced a &#8216;sun bleached poster&#8217; and the missing child became as invisible and traced as the letters from the background, and at times the words disappeared.\u00a0 These subtle incisions were just as strong as the original poem.\u00a0 The final line, where an absolute disappointment in humanity starts to ring through, is a statement of repeat and inevitability, a most destructive realization.\u00a0 While you mentioned the positioning of the flag was not intentional, I found it quite provocative.\u00a0 In the synthetic material and stencil font type it referenced the somewhat preachy flags found in a church basement, but the colour has been severely faded.\u00a0 By \u201clooking up\u201d at the flag, and the words, it becomes a significant inference of the gesture, rather than \u201cart\u201d height, which would solidify it into an art object.\u00a0 I thought the positioning was purposeful, and deciphered a connection of the role that language and the flag take on.
