Diversions

I thought that it would be interesting to track some of the other things going on in my life as I progress through this course. This is my last MET course (10 of 10) and I plan to graduate at the UBC Vancouver campus in May this year.

This page is organized by week and the activities are labeled: Work, Life and MET. As I am an avid cross country skier, most of my “Life” information is about skiing. I have set a goal this season to ski 1,000 kilometres, which is roughly the driving distance from Calgary to Vancouver. So I plan to ski to my convocation or congregation as UBC calls it by applying my weekly ski distance to the route! I started skiing on November 11 when I left Calgary, crossed the border into BC on December 24 and when the course started on January 2, I was already at the Rogers Pass. Each week shows my progress.

An interesting side note, I did all of this skiing on a pair of racing skis that I purchased second hand from former Canadian National Cross Country ski team member and Olympian Gord Jewett. Gord skied for Canada in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver where he finished 52 in the 15 kilometre free style race. Gord’s best World Cup finish was 17th in the team sprint in Canmore AB in 2005 and his best Nordic World Nordic Ski Championship finish of 37th was in 2005 in Oberstdorf, Germany in 2005. These skis have a 2005 Nordic World Nordic Ski Championship stamp on them, so they may have been the skis that Gord did his 37th finish on! Thanks Gord for selling them to me.
