Integrating the themes from Ernesto Sirolli’s TED Talk and the principles of Asset-Based Community Development

Our first impression of this project is that, while being interesting and exciting, it will also be extremely challenging.

Our goal of this project is not to propose new initiatives based on our assumptions of the accessibility of community gardens in the DTES and Strathcona areas, but to first observe and learn about their state. As demonstrated in the Ernesto Sirolli TED Talk and the ABCD strategy, we believe it is important to respect local citizens by actively listening to their needs and helping them access resources without necessarily handing it to them. Both resources accentuate the need for community members to be at the center of their development.

We hope we can apply these principles throughout our project while contributing to the needs of the community, without biases and judgement.
