The last assignment of the course was to create a web folio showcasing our best works and reflections throughout the ENGL301 Technical Writing course. This assignment feels like a good finish to the course as it gave us a chance to review and revise our previous works one last time and present them in a nicely organized manner. I can also see myself using the web folio as a base outline for a personal website that I am going to create for my job application portfolio in the future.
During the process of reviewing my past works, I have realized that I commonly get three types of comments from my peer reviewer and the professor: 1) missing details; 2) avoid the use of pronouns; 3) avoiding the negative. The recurring criticism is a big indicator that these are the areas I am lacking the most in my writing. I believe that through the process of peer review and revising my work, I was able fix the major problems in my past works, as well as raise the awareness to pay more attention to these points in my future writings.
While creating the website through the UBC blogs site. I found that the level of customization is very limited on the site as each theme comes with their preset fonts, font sizes, and colours. I believe that using HTML and CSS would give me more flexibility in personalizing and customizing my website, and I am going to use that method for my personal website.
Overall, this assignment feels like a good wrap up of the ENGL 301 Technical Writing course. It’s been a long journey and I am glad I was able to learn from an awesome instructor and with some awesome peers!
