Definitions Assignment
The objective of this assignment was to produce three types of definitions for a technical term in our field: a parenthetical definition, a sentence definition, and an expanded definition to someone unfamiliar with the term. With my background in computer science, I decided to define the term “linked list”. Although it was challenging putting technical terms into laymen terms that are easily understandable for someone not in the field, I was successful in defining the term in a simple yet concise and understandable manner.
Peer Review of the Definition Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to review one of my writing team member’s definitions assignment and give constructive feedback to the author. While my review initially lacked details, I was able to successfully improve the level of detail in my revised work.
Peer Review of Jackson’s Definitions
Formal Report Proposal
The purpose of this formal report proposal is to propose a feasible research topic and plan to the person of interest. I have learned the importance of avoiding the negatives during writing and the necessary elements of a formal report proposal.
Progress Report with Surveys
The purpose of the progress report was to set a schedule for the tasks left to do for writing the formal report. The survey questions that were approved before the start of research is also included. I enjoyed writing this assignment as it helped me break down a big task of writing a formal report to small and manageable tasks with reasonable deadlines.
Proposal Memo
This was a memo addressed to Dr. Erika Paterson with a summary of my formal report proposal. The proposal included background, problems and solutions, research methods, my qualifications, and closing statements. I had some trouble with neglecting details again, but I have fixed that problem in the revised memo.
Best LinkedIn Practices for Professional Networking
The purpose of this email memo is provide a summary of the best practices for professional networking on LinkedIn. I compiled a list of tips on how to optimize the uses of LinkedIn as a networking tool after doing some research.
Email Memo to Evan Crisp
The assignment requires us to send an email to Evan Crisp regarding the best practices for writing an email to a professor requesting to be put in a course that is already full. Learning to write with a “YOU-Attitude” was rewarding and a useful skill. I tried my best to avoid using imperative verbs and make sure that the tone stay positive and encouraging.
Complaint and Response Letter
This assignment was a great practice for writing with the “YOU-Attitude”. We needed to write a complaint letter to a business regarding a negative experience followed with a response letter from the business. I chose to write about a recent negative experience I had with UberEats delivery app. This was challenging for me as I had to constantly remind myself to write with the business or the customer’s perspective in mind, be careful with the word choices and employ the “YOU-Attitude”.
Peer Review of a Formal Report
I have provided a review on Jackson’s formal report titled “Assessment of the Quality of Organic Chemistry Education at UBC”. It was an interesting read coming from a science background in my first degree where I had great struggles with the organic chemistry course in my second year. One thing I learned from Jackson’s report is the importance of consistency in formatting as it helps a lot with the presentation of the overall report and the clear division between sections.
Peer Review of Jackson’s Formal Report
Formal Report
My formal report is titled “Recommendations for Small-Wheeled Vehicle Lanes on the Main Roads”. This was my first time writing a formal report. Although it seemed like a really daunting task in the beginning, I am proud of the research process and the recommendations that have resulted from it. Survey data and secondary sources found online were the main sources used for this research project.
