In Module 4, we were asked to create a Digital Story using one of the 50 Web 2.0 Ways to Tell A Story. I chose to poster my story in a Glogster.
I felt that this story was worth telling simply because I experienced it. So often it is difficult to show the students how history and science relate to their lives. My idea was to create an intro activity that links the curriculum content with my life and then share that with my students, hoping that they can then make the next leap, and build connections with their own lives.
Glogster worked well as a tool for me because it very easily combines many different elements into one small space. I was able to use images from the web, music, a youtube video, textual information, my own personal pictures, and narrate in my own voice. I see this tool being very exciting to work with for students. It is a wonderful means of expression, and you do not have to be artistically inclined to create a really neat product. However, as I mentioned in my reflection, one serious limitation that I see to this tool is the Gallery. I would be nervous to introduce my students to Glogster due to some of the mature content you can easily come across in the public Glogsters. The fact that I am dealing with young students would make me wonder about age appropriate materials.
But, even though I may not use this tool with my Grade 7 class, I would love to use it with older students and can think of at least 50 different ways I could use it!
