Myth
The population of dyslexia is extremely rare.
Approximately 10-15% of the population in the US have dyslexia, while only few of the dyslexic are diagnosed.
Vision is one of the main factors toward dyslexia.
In fact, dyslexics usually have less trouble understanding images.
Dyslexia happens much more often in male population.
No significant evidence can show that boys are significantly likely to be dyslexic then girls. Even though more boys are diagnosed, the fact that boys typically show struggle more actively than girls may be a major confounding factor.
Dyslexics see things backward.
The neurological process within the brain for dyslexics function differently than other people, causing dyslexics process words differently.
People with dyslexia usually have trouble learning and therefore not intelligent.
People with dyslexia are often full of creativity. In fact, a significant number of dyslexics are successful scientists, artists, and business men/women.
People with dyslexia are not able to read at all.
Dyslexic children and adult usually can still learn to read, but with much greater effort and reading for them is usually “manual” and non-pleasurable.
