{"id":1956,"date":"2024-06-19T23:23:49","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T06:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/?page_id=1956"},"modified":"2024-07-05T16:17:20","modified_gmt":"2024-07-05T23:17:20","slug":"new-earth-science-course-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/new-earth-science-course-2\/","title":{"rendered":"New Earth Science Course"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:55px;font-style:normal;font-weight:900;text-transform:none\">New Earth Science Field Course<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Ongoing course development, guided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/3-tier-indigenous-engagement-model\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/3-tier-indigenous-engagement-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#8cc63f\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3-Tier Indigenous Engagement Model<\/span><\/mark><\/a>, is shaping a unique, field-based educational experience, making it the department&#8217;s exclusive program explicitly designed to integrate Indigenous ways of knowing. Our former <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/students-as-partners\/\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#8cc63f\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">student partners<\/span><\/mark><\/a>, Wylee Fitz-Gerald and Daniel Harris, along with participants from Tiers 1 and 2 of the model, have been instrumental in co-creating this course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Our vision is to offer a peer-led program, in collaboration with diverse partners in the Okanagan Valley, including UBC Okanagan and local Indigenous groups. The primary goal of this course is to empower UBC students to infuse Indigenous knowledge into their academic journey. It takes advantage of the breathtaking surroundings of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eoas.ubc.ca\/education\/ubc\u2013teck-geological-field-station\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#8cc63f\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UBC-Teck Geological Field Station<\/span><\/mark><\/a>, fostering deeper connections with local Indigenous communities. Our student objectives encompass working on projects that benefit local groups, instilling a sense of purpose at the UBC-Teck Geological Field Station, and cultivating meaningful relationships with our local partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Designed for 4th-year students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eoas.ubc.ca\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#8cc63f\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science department<\/span><\/mark><\/a> at UBC, this course is currently in its early planning stages, and our team is enthusiastic about creating a student-led capstone field course, supported by our valued partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns
