{"id":1983,"date":"2024-06-19T23:51:05","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T06:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/?page_id=1983"},"modified":"2025-08-29T11:27:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T18:27:27","slug":"our-cop-model","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/our-cop-model\/","title":{"rendered":"Our CoP Model"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Our Community of Practice (CoP) Model<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EaSEIL CoP<\/strong>&nbsp;(Community of Practice), is a formalized multidisciplinary \u2018space\u2019 for ongoing individual and collaborative reflection, learning, and production among instructors, staff, students and community members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:33% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"788\" height=\"789\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/files\/2023\/08\/CoP-A-Model.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-994 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/files\/2023\/08\/CoP-A-Model.png 788w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/files\/2023\/08\/CoP-A-Model-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/files\/2023\/08\/CoP-A-Model-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/files\/2023\/08\/CoP-A-Model-768x769.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our CoP seeks to foster cultural and curriculum change to reimagine, develop and transform geoscience field-based learning experiences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In this space,&nbsp;<strong>all members share their expertise and knowledge&nbsp;<\/strong>with one another (e.g., pedagogical and cultural awareness knowledge, contextual and disciplinary expertise) to co-construct meaning and co-develop contextualized resources, tools, guidelines, and curricula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Within the CoP,&nbsp;<strong>instructors take centre stage as knowers and learners<\/strong>&nbsp;who bring ample experience, diverse voices and journeys of experience teaching and learning in field-based settings. Instructors and UBC support staff members&nbsp;<strong>meet regularly<\/strong>&nbsp;(2-3 time per term on average) in&nbsp;<strong>goal-oriented individual\/collective cycles of action and reflection about field-based teaching and learning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How EaSEIL CoP Works in Practice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">A core element of our model is&nbsp;<strong>instructors\u2019 engagement in individual and collaborative reflective activities<\/strong>&nbsp;about field-based teaching and learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/easeil\/files\/2023\/08\/Screen-Shot-2023-08-21-at-7.14.21-PM-1-300x198.png\" alt=\"A diagram showing words arranged in a cycle, indicated by circular arrows.
