{"id":94,"date":"2009-04-19T17:32:03","date_gmt":"2009-04-20T01:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ecoknow\/?page_id=94"},"modified":"2017-10-12T14:56:55","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T22:56:55","slug":"gitxaala","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ecoknow\/gitxaala\/","title":{"rendered":"Gitxaala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gitxaala (pronounced Kitkatla) Nation is located on BC&#8217;s north coast.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2001 the Forests and Oceans for the Future research group has been engaged is a series of collaborative research projects.\u00a0 Since 2007, one of our research objectives involved the development of indicators to assist in sustainable forest management.\u00a0 We focused on identifying aspects of the &#8216;traditional&#8217; economy -harvesting, processing, cultural practices, etc- that indicates a healthy local culture.\u00a0 Our underlying assumption is that well managed forests contribute to healthy local communities.
