Many students hope they can just \u201cwrap it up\u201d quickly\u2014but Dr. Autumn Knowlton emphasized that this chapter requires <strong>serious attention and energy<\/strong>. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Discussion chapter is where <strong>everything comes together<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It is where you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Answer your <strong>research question<\/strong> directly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply your <strong>framework<\/strong> to your findings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Return to the <strong>literature<\/strong> and show how your study fits into the broader field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most importantly, you clearly articulate your <strong>SOCK\u2014your Significant Original Contribution to Knowledge<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Makes a Discussion Chapter Work?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Knowlton described this chapter as a <strong>weaving or juggling act<\/strong>. It is where you move from simply presenting data to <strong>interpreting its meaning<\/strong> in context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this chapter, you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Summarize your <strong>key findings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use your <strong>conceptual or theoretical framework<\/strong> to analyze those findings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Connect to <strong>existing literature<\/strong>, showing alignment or departure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make the case for your <strong>SOCK<\/strong>\u2014what your study adds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Own Your Framework<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One common challenge is <strong>forgetting to use the framework you carefully outlined earlier<\/strong>. Your framework is not just for decoration. It is a <strong>tool<\/strong> for analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Knowlton encouraged students to <strong>commit to their framework<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYou chose your conceptual\/theoretical lens, now use it!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>i.e &#8211; Drink the Kool-Aid!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>This means applying your framework consistently and with confidence. It helps organize your ideas, support your arguments, and show how your thinking is grounded in something rigorous and coherent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bringing in the Literature Again<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your <strong>literature review<\/strong> does not live in Chapter 2 alone. In your Discussion chapter, you should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Refer back to <strong>key scholars or debates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compare your findings with <strong>existing studies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show how your work <strong>confirms, challenges, or expands<\/strong> current knowledge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Use literature strategically, support your interpretation, but don\u2019t let citations take over your voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This Is Where Your SOCK Becomes Clear<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Discussion chapter is often where your <strong>Significant Original Contribution to Knowledge (SOCK)<\/strong> becomes fully visible. You are now answering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What do these findings mean?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How do they change or inform our understanding?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why does this matter?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is your moment to <strong>step into your scholarly voice<\/strong> and explain what you, and only you, can offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Struggle Is Normal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Knowlton acknowledged that this chapter is <strong>one of the hardest to write<\/strong>. Many students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Feel they are <strong>repeating themselves<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Struggle to <strong>balance findings, theory, and literature<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need <strong>multiple drafts<\/strong> to get it right.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Her advice: <strong>keep trying<\/strong>. You cannot get it perfect on the first attempt, but with each revision, your voice becomes stronger and your message becomes clearer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t really be prepared for this chapter, you get better at it by doing it. You get better at writing by writing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key
