{"id":1488,"date":"2016-12-14T14:55:00","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T21:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/edst403\/?page_id=1488"},"modified":"2017-01-27T14:18:53","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T21:18:53","slug":"teaching-philosophy-statement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/edst403\/assignments\/teaching-philosophy-statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching Philosophy Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Revising your Teaching Philosophy Statement<\/h1>\n<p>This is an opportunity to revise the teaching philosophy statement you wrote last term and meaningfully incorporate ideas from this\u00a0course into that statement.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Due: Anytime between\u00a0Monday, January 30-Wednesday, February 8, 2017<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>As you revise your teaching philosophy, do the following:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Incorporate 3 or more\u00a0key ideas from this course into your statement.<\/li>\n<li>Reduce number of idyllic statements that are not backed up by examples &#8211;help the reader \u201csee\u201d your teacher self.<\/li>\n<li>Tell me your revision story (imagine us having a conversation about your revisions).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Important\u00a0points about the annotations<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Annotate your revised version with <strong>4 or more\u00a0comments<\/strong> (use a different colour font or use comment bubbles \u00a0[Microsoft Word])<\/li>\n<li>Link your comments to at least 2\u00a0readings\u00a0from the course. \u00a0Include the full citation of the reading\u00a0in your assignment (at bottom or elsewhere as relevant).<\/li>\n<li>Point out which key ideas from the course are reflected in your revised statement (they may have already been in Version 1)<\/li>\n<li>Briefly tell me about the significant revisions you have made and why you made these changes (i.e. what concepts\/ideas\/examples have you added that were not in your previous version <strong>or<\/strong> what you have modified)<\/li>\n<li><em>Do not<\/em> tell me about changes you made to grammar, sentence structure, spelling etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As I grade the assignment, I will be looking to see the extent to which you have addressed the above requests (and the more straightforward requests below).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Other:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>You may write\u00a0this assignment in French or English.<\/li>\n<li>500-600 words maximum (including annotations).<\/li>\n<li>Include the version from last term and the revised version.<\/li>\n<li>Try to see this as an opportunity\u2014not a source of stress.
