{"id":1589,"date":"2017-01-14T11:54:29","date_gmt":"2017-01-14T18:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/edst403\/?p=1589"},"modified":"2017-01-14T11:54:29","modified_gmt":"2017-01-14T18:54:29","slug":"conversation-assignment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/edst403\/2017\/01\/14\/conversation-assignment\/","title":{"rendered":"Conversation Assignment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What are the greatest benefits and challenges of teaching in the new curriculum?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Benefits:\n<ul>\n<li>The new curriculum is more relevant to the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century (more technology)<\/li>\n<li>The new curriculum encourages more transdisciplinary teaching and learning<\/li>\n<li>More focused on competencies as opposed to content &#8211; competencies such as communication, thinking and personal &amp; social development<\/li>\n<li>Ignites a new motivation for teachers to learn something new<\/li>\n<li>The new curriculum is more wide-ranging \u2013 covers a broader range of skills<\/li>\n<li>Gives both students and teachers more autonomy &#8211; teachers can therefore pursue their own interest\u2019s\/students interests<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum promotes inquiry \u2013 a new way of teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Challenges:\n<ul>\n<li>Not enough support\/training for the new curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Training days aren\u2019t planned well &#8211; ministry needs to give more direction<\/li>\n<li>The new report card is a whole new system, which requires time commitment in order to learn<\/li>\n<li>New concepts to learn<\/li>\n<li>Having to explain the new curriculum to parents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What questions\/concerns do experienced teachers\u00a0have about implementing the new curriculum?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some people don&#8217;t like\u00a0it, because they feel as though someone else is telling them what to do and to change the way they teach<\/li>\n<li>Q: Where\/what are the resources available for the new curriculum?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What do experienced teachers\u00a0want to communicate to parents about the new curriculum?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We want to get parents excited about the new curriculum<\/li>\n<li>We need parents to understand that implementing the new curriculum is going to take time and that there may be some issues at the beginning<\/li>\n<li>That the new curriculum will better prepare their children for future success<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What are the greatest benefits and challenges of teaching in the new curriculum?
