It is designed to provide teacher candidates with an opportunity to:<\/p>\n<p>1) engage in teacher inquiry around a theme (e.g., the cohort theme such as \u201csustainability\u201d or \u201ccommunity\u201d), a disciplinary topic (e.g., \u2018historical consciousness\u2019 or chemical bonding), a particular curriculum emphasis (e.g., textbooks as cultural and historical objects), or an educational issue (e.g., the politics of French immersion programs) of the teacher candidate\u2019s choosing.<\/p>\n<p>2) demonstrate understandings acquired during course work and develop deeper understandings of a particular area of educational study.<\/p>\n<p>This section of EDUC 451 is made up of a cohort of students preparing to teach in secondary schools who have at least one are of specialization focused on the teaching of literature, literacy, and languages.<\/p>\n<p>A tentative course syllabus is available <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/educ451\/files\/2013\/01\/EDUC-451-02.pdf\">here (PDF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inquiry Seminar II is part of the University of British Columbia Teacher Education Program.
