Teaching as a Vocation

Teaching appeals to me because it gives me the opportunity to help a child flourish and grow into an independent human being. I want to be able to marvel at the way they handle the material placed in front of them, provide them with the necessary prompts to perfect it and make a difference in their lives. It is this that keeps me motivated to continue my path of being able of becoming a teacher, or rather a guide for children. I understand that the task of being a teacher is difficult especially at first when everything is new and there are many demands placed upon you which can be overwhelming but I think that part of the rewards of teaching comes from the fact that there will be struggles. This is because; it is through these obstacles that I will be able to develop myself as a person and educator. Thus in a sense, I will be learning from my students as much as they will be learning from me.

I hope to grow towards becoming an educator that will be able to be a role model for the children in my classroom. I want to able to develop a connection with all the children by getting to know who they are as a person and hopefully, I will be able to impact their lives in a positive way. I hope to deepen my understanding of the classroom curriculum and develop the skills to encourage children to engage in the materials in their everyday lives. I expect that I will face challenges and I hope to learn ways to overcome them. In this way, I hope to develop a better sense of who I am as an educator and what it means to be a Montessorian.
