Assignments

  1. Improving WCET estimation through hardware support (due 11:59 p.m. on February 4): Read and summarize the work by Mohan and Mueller on CheckerMode (Proceedings of the IEEE Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium, 2008). You must list the challenges to WCET estimation in high-performance out-of-order execution and identify the issues that CheckerMode handles. Are there any improvements that you can think of? Remember that you will benefit more by reading the article in detail rather than attempting to address only the questions that I raise.
  2. (OPTIONAL) Design challenges for cyber-physical systems (due 11:59 p.m. on April 17): Read and summarize the key points in Edward A. Lee’s article on design challenges for CPS. What are the central problems that Lee alludes to and what are the solutions he suggests?
