Pfizer app wants to make consumers a ‘smidge’ healthier

Pfizer has recently launched a free mobile application, “Smidge“, to motivate and encourage users to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The app focuses on small changes to improve the body, mind and spirit in six areas: be more positive, eat more fruits and veggies, train your brain, take stairs, deep breathing and drink more water. This app was developed based on research that showed people need motivation to stay on track with health goals, therefore, it tracks users progress and allows them to share it on facebook, twitter or via email.

I find this app interesting because it acts as a personal trainer that constantly reminds people of the basics of how to maintain a healthy body. Living in a fast pace environment like today, people tend to neglect small details in life, such as, maintain a healthy diet, take stairs instead of elevator, or simply drink water instead of pops. Another interesting fact about “Smidge” is that most health applications focus on one area, but “Smidge” focuses on the mind and body. The mind has a major impact on a person’s overall health because negative thoughts often constitute to negative behaviour while positive thoughts will lead to healthier behaviour.

Hi Eileen! I just read an article about how the iphone is deeply changing our culture: the way we interact, the way we search for information, and the way we think. {http://www.appiction.com/how-iPhone-app-ideas-are-revolutionizing-our-everyday-interactions]. It is really incredible how a mobile app like “Smidge” can shape the way we think, keep track of what we have to remember, and motivate us to daily succeed. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD0I4YjDCs8] – In this YouTube link you will find a very enthusiastic user (consumer) of a similar iphone diet app, very interested in showing her compassion for the apple product as a whole because of the different apps it offers. This shows that although most of the apps are not created by Apple themselves, but by consumers and businesses, they are one of the main reasons why apple still holds a very positive financial position with very high profit margins. The apps spark love for the brand and for their products, therefore creating a very good opportunity for app developers of generating profits.
