Assessment Results
Health Screening Results are interpreted below.
Basic Health Screening
Our sample athlete has been in training for some time, and therefore entered our facility with a very fit current status. His Par-Q contained no “Yes” results, allowing us to continue health screening without concerns on health or physical fitness. His resting heart rate is 50 beats per minute, which is considered very healthy for an active, young individual. His resting blood pressure was also healthy, at 110/75. Our subject stands at 5’9 and weighs 84.1 kg, which gives him a BMI of 27.3. His BMI is technically overweight, however we can assume this is caused by his high values of muscle mass as opposed to fat mass.
Body Composition Assessment
Our body composition assessment involved the waist circumference and skinfold measures. Our subjects’ waist circumference was 76.2 cm. The skinfold measures were 3cm at the bicep, 4cm at the triceps, 8cm at the sub scapular, 7cm at the iliac crest and 4cm at the medial calf. These values combined gives an overall value of 26cm. The BMI, waist circumference and skinfold values combined gives us a body composition rating of Excelllent. This tells us that this body composition falls within a range that is associated with optimal health benefits.
Aerobic Fitness Assessment
The mCAFT test was performed as this individual was cleared for exercise by the Par-Q. He reached the 7th stage, falling one stage short of finishing the test. His final heart rate was 166bpm, which is his value for 85% of his maximum heart rate for his age. This indicates an aerobic fitness score of Excellent. The values can be imputed into an equation to estimate a VO2max score of 62.8L/kg/min.
Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment
The musculoskeletal fitness assessment was performed to indicate a base level of muscular endurance, strength and power. The push up test was performed and the subject reached the maximum of 36 push ups. The partial curl up test was also maxed out at 25 curl ups. The hand grip test scored 144kg. And the vertical jump test reached 80 cm. These values indicate a level of Excellent for each aspect of the test.
Back Health Assessment
The back health assessment was performed last. The sit and reach test gave a value of 26cm, which is considered Fair. The back extension test was maxed out at 3 minutes of sustained contraction, which gives us an Excellent fitness rating. The Healthy Physical Activity Questionnaire was filled out and a score of 11 was given, indicated a fitness score of Excellent.
