Hello reader,
First off, let me thank you for taking the time to read my words. I know there is so much to read and see on the internet so I truly do appreciate the time you have given to my words! Everything I shall write on this blog is for the course, English 470A, which I’m taking through distance education at the University of British Columbia.
While travelling out of Canada I have interacted with all sorts of canada-flag-9-610x343people and had discussions on all sorts of topics related to Canada. On one flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver, I engaged in a short conversation with a gentlemen reading “Life of Pi”. He mentioned that the author was Canadian and I remember being surprised at my ignorance of that fact – after all the book had just been made into a fairly popular movie. I also realized that I could not even name three Canadian authors and promised myself to be more engaged with Canadian writing in the future.
Several years passed by and I found myself looking through the UBC course catalogue for something interesting. I stumbled upon English 470 and that conversation on the plane came back to my mind. I knew I had to take this course, simply so that I would be forced to engage with Canadian literature. In the fast-paced world we now inhabit, I find it simply too difficult to pursue passing interests unless I have some sort of accountability. I hope that this course, by forcing me to look at Canadian works, will provide a stimulus and a starting point for me to further my knowledge of Canadian literature.
Once again, thanks for reading my words!
