Course Requirements

Course Requirements and Grading:

Your grade will be based on attendance and class participation, an in-class essay, a critical response assignment, and a final exam.

10% — participation
20% — in-class essay
30% — critical response
40% — final exam

Format for Written Work

Please type or word-process your assignments in MLA format. The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research papers is available at the UBC Bookstore and the university library.

Academic Ethics

Plagiarism will not be tolerated in this course. All assignments must be your own original work. Consult UBC Calendar for policies on academic honesty.

Due Dates for Reading and Writing Assignments

Reading assignments for each class are to be completed in time for class attendance. Written assignments are due in class on the due-dates listed in the syllabus. Late work will lose 5% of the mark for each day overdue. Please retain a copy of your written assignments.

Attendance and Participation

Attendance at all course meetings is required, and participation is expected. UBC policy excuses students from class on days of religious observance, but asks that instructors be notified two weeks in advance.
