Subject: Peer Review of Application Package – Aleem Tariq

Hello Aleem,

This application package for the SAP Junior Software Developer is well written and showcases your skills to the recruiting manager. Below are comments on the application package.

First Impressions

The application package is well-organized and each document has a clear, defined structure which helps to highlight the qualifications to the recruiter. There are a couple of suggestions for each section that would help strengthen this application package.

Cover Letter

The cover letter is well-structured, with the header having properly addressed the hiring manager and signed off with a signature and name below. The second paragraph does a great job highlighting transferable skills from an unrelated field. Consider the following suggestions.

  • Describing a project that uses one of the programming languages listed in the job description.
  • Showing interest in the company’s product. Is there anything about SAP’s software that is particularly interesting?

Resume

The resume is formatting in proper, reverse chronological and organized into distinct sections. It highlights projects that shows programming and technical competence. It also has a section that lists the technical skills that are relevant from the job posting. Consider the following suggestions.

  • Shortening the length of the resume to one page. In the computer science industry, typically one page resumes are preferred by recruiters as they are more concise.
  • Putting locations where applicable. For example, in the work experience section and the education section. Where were these positions located in?
  • Adding links to Github/Project repository. Sometimes, recruiters would like to explore the code of a project.

Reference Letters

The reference letters are well done. They are properly formatted with a header that addresses each individual and signed off with the name at the bottom. The beginning of each letter does a great job at bringing up positive past experience with the individual, incorporating the “You Attitude” writing style. Consider the following suggestions.

  • Listing the specific project/experience in which the skill that the individual can vouch for was used.
  • Having a comma before signing off.

Grammar/Tone

The application package does a great job incorporating the “You Attitude” style of writing, especially in the reference letters. A couple of minor issues could be considered for the final application package.

  • Using the same email throughout the application package.
  • Splitting sentences into two as opposed to using a semicolon.

Overall Impressions

Overall, this application package is well-constructed and highlights the applicant’s qualifications well. The following suggestions will help improve this to a strong application for the SAP Junior Software Developer position.

  • Showing interest SAP’s product in the cover letter
  • Shortening the resume to one page and adding links to coding projects
  • Fixing minor grammar issues

Thank you for taking the time to write this great application package. SAP would greatly benefit from your technical abilities.
