Subject: Peer review of Formal Report proposal

Thank you for submitting your formal report proposal for improving the study experiences for BCS students in distance time zones. This was an excellent proposal, providing good insight to the topic as well as a good basis for helping BCS students during this difficult time. Please see the following comments and suggestions for ways in which to further improve your proposal.

First Impressions:

The proposal was well organized and well researched. The delivery of the information was clear and concise. The chosen topic is quite interesting to read. This research could really help benefit many international students especially those living in different time zones.

Organization:

The proposal is well organized with its titles and bold headings. Each section provides the right amount of information needed to help support your proposal.

Introduction:

The introduction provided a good amount of background to the topic. It also gave a good understanding to the causes as to why there is a need for better study experiences for international students. These aspects were well researched.

Statement of Problem:

The problem statement is both clear and concise. The reader is provided the understanding to the difficulties international students in different time zones face when registered to courses. The proposal supports the need for improvement. The use of “first,” and “second,” give clear indications to what the issues are and how these impact students.

Proposed Solution:

The provided solution works well with helping to improve these student’s lives and study experiences. Good points are made and it is clear how this can be beneficial.

Scope:

Excellent areas of inquiry were provided. These questions were well thought out and are great areas to look into.

A suggestion of another area of inquiry is possibly to see “For online exams, can a flexible solution be provided for international students in distant time zones?”. From my knowledge, this is a major issue for most people in different time zones since they have no say over the timing of these exams. This issue was mentioned this problem statement, and it may be a good area to look into while doing research.

Methods:

The provided plan are excellent choices for your primary and secondary choices. The IRCC and UBC international student office will be good sources for information regarding the programs and existing policies. While surveys from these impacted students will provide a good insight as to what can be changed or what can be most beneficial to them.

Qualifications:

Being an international student in a distant time zone provides good credibility to the issues faced and to what can be most beneficial for these type of students.

Grammar and Typos:

Only small errors were found such as,

  • Introduction Section:
    • “announcements on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website” is missing “the” after “on”
    • “March. 18 2020” should use “,” not “.”
    • “whereas, it extended to more than 20 …” is a bit unclear. Maybe define what was led to this change, i.e. “However due to the pandemic, it was extended …”
    • “if some students have received the offer early” instead should be “if some students received the offer early”
  • “won’t be able to travel to Canada in this term” in Statement of Problem section does not need “in”
  • “Hence” in Statement of Problem is missing comma

Concluding Comments:

Overall, this was an excellent and well written proposal. The desired research topic and methods of study was well defined. This research will help improve the experiences of not only international BCS students, but all those who are in distance time zones and experience the same problems.

Thank you and please feel free to ask me any questions or for any clarification. It was a great experience peer reviewing this proposal.
