Subject: Best Practices for a LinkedIn Profile
I would like to share some of the best practices for LinkedIn that I researched with you. The best practices I found most useful include:
- Stray away from buzzwords: words such as ‘expert’, ‘experienced’, ‘innovative’ will not convince others of your qualifications (Fleming)
- Make your summary personal: do not just list your skills or positions, make it a story about you in 3-5 sentences (Fleming)
- Include an appropriate profile picture: make your photo clear and friendly (“The 31 Best LinkedIn Profile Tips”)
- Add your email address and other contact information (“The 31 Best LinkedIn Profile Tips”)
- Join LinkedIn groups: this shows others that you are engaged in your career (“The 31 Best LinkedIn Profile Tips”)
- Keep your profile updated: make sure all information is accurate and relevant (Kim)
- Include keywords you want to be identified with (Kim)
- Personalize your LinkedIn URL: keep your URL consistent with other social platforms (Kim)
- Add sections for awards, community service, and more to your profile: including additional sections allows more networking opportunities (Kim)
- Personalize connection invitations: change the default message to increase the chances of others accepting your invitation (Kim)
