Hello Team,

Happy Monday! I hope everyone is doing well.

I’ve attached a brief summary of research, in an attempt to highlight some LinkedIn best practices. The top recommendations I’ve gathered are as follows:

  1. Use a professional photo- this is the first thing that potential co-workers/ employees will see. It’s important to consider what might make you stand out. You can read more the importance of a first impression here
  2. Write a compelling summary- this is an opportunity for you to give a, brief, description of who you are, what you are working towards and or what you are currently doing.
  3. Don’t be afraid to post about accomplishments- to a certain degree, LinkedIn acts as a secondary resume. Share your professional story! You can read more about posting specific accomplishments here
  4. Join LinkedIn Groups- this is a great opportunity to connect with, and learn from like minded individuals, who might be working towards a common goal.
  5. Create a custom URL- a simple tip that makes accessing your profile more professional
  6. Personalize invitations to connect- useful tip to implement, especially when trying to connect with someone you haven’t had any significant interaction with.
  7. “Research” visibility- you can see who has viewed your profile and vice versa. This can be a helpful tool to “show” employers you are prepperiing for an interview, subject matter, etc. when used in the right way. You can read more about this here
  8. Be positive- its okay to share both wins and losses. In both scenarios, ensure you address what you’ve learned and or how you’ve grown from the experience
  9. Grammar check- ensure that you treat LinkedIn like a resume, when considering the importance of grammar.
  10. Use an interesting background photo- pictures can be worth a thousand words

I hope that you can reference these “tips and Tricks” when working to build/ improve your LinkedIn profile. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.

Best,

Evan Ruiz
